Description

This module aims to present an overview of key financial markets and institutions in order to prepare students for more advanced and specialist studies in the second and third years. The module adopts both a quantitative and qualitative approach to explaining the functioning and importance of financial markets and institutions supported by real world examples.

Outcomes

On completion of this module the successful student will be able to:
explain the existence, mechanics and functions of different financial markets and institutions
evaluate how performance of financial markets and institutions can be affected or explained by economic policies and theories
use appropriate formulae and models to examine the returns on different financial markets’ instruments
Skills
This module will call for the successful student to:
analyse and interpret financial and economic data and graphs
estimate expected returns, prices, exchange rates or other relevant rates for financial instruments from different markets.
clearly communicate in writing an understanding of theory and its application to practical issues.
