Description

This course is an introduction to the foundational principles of art. Analysis and observation of how we experience art and design and how it engages community will be examined. Knowledge of art will become a tool of discovery and reveal messages and codes embedded in visual culture linking the social and global sphere. Students will learn how art and design instructs a user and influences human behavior. The class will foster a research approach and prior experience with art is not required nor expected.

Objectives

In this class, you will learn diverse art practices and how art and design interface with the larger visual culture. Art topics and collaborative projects provide students with critical thinking and problem solving skills in the areas of creative process. Students will gain experience in talking and writing about art which build skills in aesthetic and analytical vocabulary. By the end of the course, students will understand how art informs society and it’s integral role in the health and well-being individuals, societies, and global cultures.
