Description

The course explores the fundamental legal notions such as justice, revenge, forgiveness, equality, equity, etc. at examples from literature, visual arts, theatre, and films. The course aims at cultivating students’ culturally sensitive understanding of those fundamental notions through well-known characters and images, and seeks to foster students’ critical and interdisciplinary analysis skills, as well as decision-making skills. It also presents law as an integrated social phenomenon, which is related to culture, politics, economics, and other social sciences. During the course, students will be encouraged to practice their artistic skills while reflecting about the role of law in human lives.

Objectives

Knowledge outcomes • learn about literary, theatrical, operatic, musical, cinematic and other artistic pieces dealing with fundamental legal issues. • appreciate and develop respect for law as a multicultural and contextual phenomenon. • develop their understanding of conceptual legal ideas. • learn about various role models related to law-governed behaviour. Skills outcomes • see legal aspects in everyday situations, and develop problem-solving skills and an ability to generate practical ideas for the solution of legal challenges. • act ethically and in conformity with legal principles. • learn to listen and participate effectively in class. • learn to express ideas cogently orally and in writing. • develop their artistic, public speaking, performance, and communication skills.
