I. Business Research Project for MBA students (Entry Year: Fall 2005-2007)

According to KIMEP Catalogue 2005-2007, MBA students are required to choose between:

1.      Internship

2.      Business Research Project

 Both are given 3 credits.

1.1 Business Research Project (BRP) description

MBA students may complete BUS 5271 Business Research Project as a substitute for BUS5270 Internship for 3 credit hours.

 A project is to be a significant piece of individual work of an applied nature. The topic of the research work should be in the major area of study of a student.

 A formal research report must be submitted and defended in front of a panel of faculty members (minimum 2) for successful completion of the course. Junior students may be called to observe the proceedings in the interest of expanding their knowledge.

1.2 Registration to BPR

1. Fill in the resume on the BCB Career Services Center web site: www.kimep.kz/bcb/main/career. The resume will be then checked by the BCB Career Services Center.

2. Visit the potential Research Supervisor for discussion of possible area/topic of research

3. Fill in BRP Registration Form and bring it to BCB Career Services Center

4. BCB Career Services Center submits your form to the Registrar Office. The Registrar office opens you a registration for BRP.

 1.3 Payment

After filling in the BRP Registration Form students have to pay for the course.  The cost of the Business Research Project is the same as other 3-credit MBA courses. 

1.4  Research Supervisor

Students will be assigned a Research Supervisor from BCB faculty who will approve the research proposal, monitor progress, and evaluate the work and report.  Research supervisors will be appointed by the respective Department Chairs. 

2. How to Qualify for Participation in the MBA BRP

2.1 Eligibility

A student can take the BRP course by own choice or if unable to arrange an internship with an organization.

 Students can take the Business Research Project after completion of 24 credit hours in the MBA program.

Fast-Track MBA students are also allowed to take BRP after completion of 24 credit hours as other regular students, even though they transferred credits from Bachelor program.

3. Conditions of the BRP

3.1 The timeframe of MBA BRP development is as follows:

Ideally, a student must complete all course requirements for BRP by the end of the semester in which the course is taken. Under extraordinary situation, a student may receive a grade of “IP” (in progress), which must be completed by the next semester.

 3.2 BRP and Specialization Area

The topic of the research work should be in the major area of study of a student.

4. Academic Component of BRP

 4.1 BRP Report

The BRP Report format can be taken from the Research supervisor or from here.

Recommended size of the Research Report  – 50 pages without appendixes, 1.5 space, 12 font, Times New Roman

 4.2 Grading

Students should submit, present and defend the Business Research Projects. After fulfilling this requirement, they are given a letter grade (according to KIMEP present grading system). This grade will constitute the Course grade. 

 5. BCB CSC Advising

Students can visit the BCB CSC and/or Research faculty supervisor to get advice.
