REQUIREMENTS | The U.S. Consulate General in Almaty is seeking applicants for the Trade Student Intern for the Commercial Section. This internship is a six-month unpaid, volunteer-based employment opportunity which will provide a valuable hands-on international trade experience in a diplomatic mission. The U.S. Commercial Service of the U.S. Consulate General in Almaty is an overseas office of the U.S. Department of Commerce, and its main function is to promote U.S. business interests in Kazakhstan, offering valuable assistance to help U.S. businesses export goods and services to Kazakhstan through business counseling, market research, partner searches, and business facilitation services. • Must be at least 18 years old and must be enrolled not less than half-time in a high school, trade school, technical or vocational institute, junior college, college, university, or other accredited educational institution. • Must be in good academic standing and secure permission to participate in the program from the educational institution. • Should have Level IV (fluent) of English and Level IV (fluent) of Russian or Kazakh. Language skills may be tested. • Should have skills in written and oral communication, office software (MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and in professional research and written analysis. Should be able to take initiative and complete assigned tasks with accuracy and little supervision. • If selected, the candidate must be able to obtain a security clearance. |
SALARY | Student intern program is uncompensated. Any student participating in the program is not an employee of the U.S. mission |
DUTIES | BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION The intern will work in coordination with the Commercial Officers, Specialists and other section staff to assist with a variety of trade-related projects and outreach events; support commercial events such as matchmaking programs; update contact databases and distribution lists; monitor current events so as to provide educated guidance on programs and cultural appropriateness; assist in correspondence with local partners; and provide office support. Trade Interns conduct detailed research support including drafting market research reports; interact with the U.S. and Kazakh business community related to trade inquiries; provide general office support; help with trade event recruitment and preparations; and assist with other tasks as assigned. |
